Defense fuels 29-8 run as Washington beats Seattle

Defense and Depth. They're the two things that make this iteration of the Mystics dangerous. It's nearly public knowledge at this point that the Washington Mystics seldom have issues putting the ball in the basket, but they become something else entirely when they're locked in on the defensive end. The job they did defensively, primarily in the second half is a huge reason why they were able to complete the sweep of this three game home stand capped off by last night's 88-59

Seattle rallies late to top Washington

The Washington Mystics got their first crack at the Seattle Storm since getting swept in last year's WNBA Finals. Once again the Storm got the better of the Mystics, rallying late to win 73-71. Despite losing Kristi Toliver early in the game from getting back to back technical fouls, resulting in an ejection, the Mystics held a 13 point lead at one point in the fourth quarter. However, Washington's offense stalled and Seattle showed their championship mettle by cutting the le

Stewart, Howard combine for 59 points as Seattle wins third title

In front of a crowd of nine thousand plus at George Mason University's Eagle Bank Arena, the Washington Mystics saw their season come to a close last night at the hands of the Seattle Storm. The visiting Storm completed the three game sweep with a 98-82 win, led by Breanna Stewart and Natasha Howard. These two teams were both talented in their own right, but one of the clearest things that separated them as the series played out was the business like approach by Seattle. They

Mystics lead wire to wire in 100-77 win over Seattle

Two of the league’s hotter teams met earlier today when the Washington Mystics hosted the Seattle Storm. The visiting Storm were riding a five game win streak and the Mystics were on a four game streak of their own, including a win by forfeit over the Las Vegas Aces. The Mystics didn’t waste anytime asserting their will in this one, a 31-18 first quarter set the tone for the 100-77 rout of Seattle. Elena Delle Donne led all scorers with 30 points, LaToya Sanders had 17 points

Washington methodical in their blowout win over Seattle

The last three games have been very interesting for the Washington Mystics. Two games ago they suffered their second loss of the season to the Lynx on the road in Minnesota. Instead of allowing that to spiral them into a losing streak, Washington responded with a blowout win on the road in Chicago before coming home. It could have been seen as an isolated incident, considering some of the struggles they’ve had this season with consistency. The Mystics took that opportunity t

Mystics fall to the Storm in a hard fought contest 81-76

Mystics point guard Natasha Cloud put the team on her back late however it wasn't enough to secure a win Often times, a game can be traced back to a play and/or a sequence of plays that has a pivotal role in the final outcome. As the Washington Mystics (12-18) hosted the Seattle Storm (14-17) in a game that had huge playoff implications, the sequence of plays that decided the game, came from Storm rookie Breanna Stewart. With Washington leading 53-43 at the 4:54 mark of the 3
