Jones makes history as Connecticut evens the series

Jonquel Jones treated fans in Washington, D.C. with a performance they were used to seeing when George Washington was the name on the front of her jersey. She had a monstrous double-double, 32 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Connecticut Sun past the Washington Mystics 99-87 for a Game 2 victory. The series is now tied at one a piece as the WNBA Finals moves to Connecticut for Games 3&4. Alyssa Thomas lived up to her "Baby Bron" nickname earned during her tenure at the Univ

Delle Donne leads balanced effort as Mystics rout Liberty

Washington's Most Valuable Player candidate had one of those moments that MVPs have. Her team was growing stagnant offensively as the Liberty started the third quarter playing very good defense. Forcing a couple of shot clock violations and getting on the score board. They cut the deficit to 14, but it felt different as the building grew a bit restless. It appeared as if the Liberty with their physicality, were starting to seize control of the tempo. Elena Delle Donne scored

Defense fuels 29-8 run as Washington beats Seattle

Defense and Depth. They're the two things that make this iteration of the Mystics dangerous. It's nearly public knowledge at this point that the Washington Mystics seldom have issues putting the ball in the basket, but they become something else entirely when they're locked in on the defensive end. The job they did defensively, primarily in the second half is a huge reason why they were able to complete the sweep of this three game home stand capped off by last night's 88-59

Delle Donne scores 28 as Mystics sweep season series with Dream

The Washington Mystics completed their season series sweep of the Atlanta Dream with a 93-65 win today at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Elena Delle Donne led the way with a 28 point point performance on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor. That along with a strong defensive effort was enough to get Washington back-to-back wins following their overtime win in Indiana. Aerial Powers had 17 points, starting in place for the injured Ariel Atkins. She knocked down four of seven

Mercury rout Mystics, Washington no longer in first place

Earlier today the Mystics hosted a Camp Day game at Capital One Arena and the Phoenix Mercury were the team that enjoyed the environment the most en route to a 91-68 win on the road. Brittney Griner and DeWanna Bonner (pictured above) combined for 47 points, Briann January known more for her defense, chipped in with 18 points as the Mercury cruised to victory with a dominant second half. The Mystics were led by Tianna Hawkins, she scored 24 points. Washington was never on the

Career night for Hawkins help Mystics Power Past Wings

The Washington Mystics were tested physically by the Dallas Wings en route to their fourth consecutive win, 86-62. The margin of victory doesn't truly show just how tough a game this was between these two teams. A career high 21 points from Tianna Hawkins (pictured above), 18 points from Aerial Powers led Washington in a game where their depth definitely showed out. Washington's starting backcourt was effective as well as Kristi Toliver and Natasha Cloud scored 14 and 13 poin

MYSTICS ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS WITH ROUT OF THE SPARKS

Mystics all star forward Elena Delle Donne drives on Sparks all star Candace Parker Defense. That’s the big takeaway from Washington’s rout of the Los Angles Sparks in last night’s elimination game in Washington, D.C. With renovations being done at Capital One arena and the Mystics new facility not yet open, they hosted the Sparks at the Smith Center on the Campus of George Washington University. The way the building is set up (sits 5,000), Washington fed off the energy of 3,

Cloud's game winner lifts Mystics over Sparks

The Washington Mystics capped their eight consecutive win in dramatic fashion. The game was tied at 67 with 3.8 seconds left, the Mystics ran a play but their first option was taken away. That wasn't a shock as no team in their right mind is going to let the ball get to either Elena Delle Donne or Kristi Toliver in that situation. The ball was in-bounded to Natasha Cloud (pictured above), she had been struggling all game with her shot. Up to that point, Washington's starting

Big fourth quarter leads Mystics past Liberty

The last time these two teams met, it took a buzzer beater from Elena Delle Donne to decide it. That wouldn't be the case this time as Washington used a big fourth quarter, including a 15-5 run to beat New York 86-67. Delle Donne started slow, but she scored 11 points in the final period as the Mystics outscored the Liberty 22-8. Tina Charles led all scorers with 26 points and 12 rebounds, allowing her to move into 16th place on the New York Liberty Scoring List. She passed f

Hawkins, Atkins combine for 32 as Mystics rally to beat Aces

For the second consecutive game, the Washington Mystics got a win. They start the season 2-0 after a 75-70 come from behind victory over the shorthanded Las Vegas Aces. An abysmal offensive performance in the first half put Washington in a hole, turning the ball over at a high rate didn't help things either. A strong performance from the Washington bench helped turned things around, allowing them to withstand a balanced Aces attack. A'ja Wilson had 16 points and eight reboun

In physical game with New York, Washington’s depth the difference

Mystics point guard Ivory Latta lets her emotions out after converting a lay-up in traffic. Latta was huge off the bench, scoring 15 points which was tied for the team high The Washington Mystics showed that this is a different year and a different team. They not only survived a flat out war with the New York Liberty, but were the aggressors for stretches in their 67-54 win last night in the Verizon Center. In past years, teams like the Liberty and Indiana Fever would get Was

The Mystics suffered their first loss of the season at the Verizon Center, Washington wasn't as sharp as they needed to be and the Wings made them pay for it.
