Remember Them Days - Bullets Phil Chenier Torches The Knicks

By Cardell Dudley

Ask most fans who Phil Chenier is and most defintely you will get told he is the play by play announcer for the Wizards along with Steve Buckhantz. True. Ask a more serious fan, and you might hear that Chenier is both a play by play announcer and former guard for the Bullets/Wizards. Also true. However, if you ask the die hard basketball historians, they will tell you he was a deadly guard for the great Bullet teams in the 70s before a back injury cut short an all star career. Phil Chenier was a blur as a sweet shooting 6'3 guard out of the University of California who finished his career as a three time All Star averaging 17.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.0 assist per game, culminating in an NBA Champion in 1978 for the Bullets. The first and only championship for the Bullets/Wizards franchise. To say Chenier was one of the top guards of his era is an understatement. Watch below as Chenier torches the famed New York Knicks backcourt of Walt "Clyde" Frazier and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assist and 4 steals in a 106-97 Bullets victory.
