Slam Dunk To The Beach (Day One) - Maret School vs Appoquiniminik High School

Maret School junior center Luka Garza was dominant inside scoring a game high 32 points and 6 rebounds

It was the opening game of the 2015 Slam Dunk to the Beach and it may very well end up being the most memorable. Maret thanks to a buzzer beating three pointer from senior guard Trey Perry (6 points) walked out winners of a FOUR overtime affair over Appoquiniminik High School 55-52. It was a efficient battle between the two teams through the first two quarters as Marets junior center Luka Garza (32 points, 6 rebounds) and Appoquiniminik junior guard Myles Cale (23 points, 9 rebounds) went bucket for bucket in leading their respective teams. While both teams shot well from the field, Appoquiniminik (59.1%) edged Maret (52.7%) as they took a 35-25 halftime lead. In the second half, Maret turned up the intensity defensively. Pressing full court and forcing nine key turnovers in the process while feeding Garza in the post consistently, Maret outscored Appoquiniminik 25-16 to force overtime. After failed attempts to hold the ball for the entire four minutes in the first three overtimes by the Jaguars, Maret was able to force a turnover and secure the ball for the last shot in the fourth overtime. As the clock winded down, junior guard Coby Davis drove the lane and kicked it to a wide open Trey Perry who calmly knocked down the game winning three pointer for Maret. It was arguably the most memorable game since the event returned last December.

Maret moved to 6-3 on the season while Appoquiniminik fell to 3-3.

Maret will play Roman Catholic Monday at 1:30pm while Appoquiniminik will take on in state foe Cape Henlopen Tuesday at 9pm.

Appoquiniminik junior guard Myles Cale fought valiantly to lead his team to victory finishing with 23 points and a game high 9 rebounds but it wasn't enough
