2018 NBA Summer League Series - Former Hoya Marcus Derrickson Shines


Former Paul VI and Georgetown standout Marcus Derrickson came strong in a 77-71 win over the Lakers after subpar outings against the Heat and Raptors to kick off NBA summer league play. Derrickson, scored 24 points (8-18 FG/4-7 3FG) and grabbed 11 rebounds, both game highs, while also being active on defense to finish with 4 steals. The knock on Derrickson as he declared for the draft, was that he was too small to defend big men in the NBA, and not athletic enough to defend the perimeter. Playing at 6'7 250 while at Georgetown, Derrickson slimmed down preparing for the draft and is now a reported 6'7 230. He looks quicker, faster and more explosive, combine that with his ability to shoot, rebound, I.Q. and toughness and Derrickson has the tools to be an ideal stretch four and make a strong push to be on an NBA roster down the line.
