Second Half Surge Pushes Bowie State Pass Cheyney 77-66

By Cardell Dudley

It wasn't pretty, although at the end of the day they don't ask how you got it done, they ask if you got it done? Thanks to a couple of second half runs, Bowie State (4-2) came out on top, defeating Cheyney (1-4) 77-66. The first half was a back an forth affair due to multiple turnovers and missed shots from both teams. After five lead changes and four ties, both teams had to settle for a 30 point tie going into halftime. The second half came down to runs, and Bowie State simply put together more runs then Cheyney. Bowie State led by juniors Andre Jackson (14 points/10 rebounds), Justin Beck (12 points/10 rebounds) and Julian Livingtson (10 points) opened the second half with nine unanswered points. Cheyney would respond as all teams do with a 17-5 run thanks to a barrage of three pointer, to take a 47-44 lead. Bowie State would follow with a 18-5 knockout run to take a 67-54 lead at the 6:15 mark and Cheyney would never threaten again. Bowie State handed out a season high 20 assist and also won the rebounding battle decisively with a 50-25 edge in the victory. Check out the highlights below.
