GW Men's Defeats Lafayette 85-76 To Open The Season


Tyler Cavanaugh finished with 15 points and a game high 17 rebounds in his Colonial debut

Coming in to the game, most in attendance knew that George Washington had the edge inside and if they attacked the paint, the Colonials would cruise to victory. Boy did GW take full adavantage of their edge inside. GW would take control of the game early behind center Kevin Larsen's career high 24 points and 11 rebounds and forward Tyler Cavanaugh's 15 points and 17 rebounds cruising to a 85-76 win over Lafayette. Senior guard Patricio Garino added 17 points while sophomore point guard Paul Jorgensen contributed 10 points. GW as expected dominated the paint, outscoring Lafayette 42-20 while also winning the rebounding battle 50-32. GW held a 24 point lead early in the second half before Lafayette's senior point guard Nick Lindner became unstoppable, scoring 21 of his game high 27 points in the second half . However Alex Mitola and Jorgensen would make timely shots and free throws down the stretch to keep GW ahead for good.

GW will host No. 6 Virginia Monday at 7:30pm. The game can be seen on ESPN 2.
