As a 7 year old kid, I participated in a free basketball clinic at the Hillcrest Heights Community Center hosted by the then Washington Bullets. During the clinic, Bullets point guard Michael Adams put us through a number of basketball drills, as well as taking the time to mentor us about life. Finally, he challenged every one us, about a 100 kids, to defend and steal the basketball him which included me. None of us came close. That experience, has stayed with me to this very day as a soon to be 32 year old man. Fast forward to today and it was deja vu, to see the smile on the kids faces at Malcolm X Elementary School as John Wall arrived and interacted with them during his third annual John Wall Family Foundation back to school block party.
The JWFF event featured food, interactive activities, games, vendors, music and giveaways as well as donations from JWFF partners such as Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, Panini and Signet, Inc etc. John Wall then handed out backpacks filled with school supplies to every kid in attendance himself and this was after literally walking around and greeting every one who attended the event. Like me nearly 25 years ago, this event will have a positive impact that will linger on in the kids for the rest of their lives. Well done John Wall. Take a look at how it all unfolded below.
