Spalding Can't Overcome Quickley's 33; Fall To John Carroll


John Carroll junior point guard Immanuel Quickley exploded for a game high 33 points

Spalding came into tonight's game looking to duplicate the same result from last season, when they upset John Carroll at the buzzer. John Carroll had other plan's. The Patriots led by a relentless Immanuel Quickley, defeated Spalding soundly, 74-49, improving to 10-4 on the season.

Spalding saw themselves down 9-1 to start the game, thanks in large part to self inflicted turnovers in which John Carroll capitalize immediately. The Cavaliers, made a run led by point guard Buzz Anthony to make it a contest as Spalding trailed John Carroll 17-9 after one. In the second period, Quickley showed why he is among the best in the country. Quickley scored 10 of John Carroll's 23 points in the quarter while the Patriots held the Cavaliers to 13 points to take a 40-22 lead going into halftime. In the second half, the onslaught from the Patriots continued, now with guard Montez Mathis leading the way. Mathis scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half to ensure victory for John Carroll.

Anthony led Spalding with 17 points while freshman guard N'Kobe Turner added 14 points. John Carroll freshman forward Cameron Byers contributed 13 points respectively. Spalding fell to 6-8 on the season.

Next up Spalding will travel to take on Loyola Blakefield Friday at 7pm while John Carroll will host Calvert Hall this Friday at 7pm as well.
