Capital City had their moments where it seemed like victory was assured, yet late, thanks to some familiar plays from former Hoya Rodney Pryor, the Go-Go fell to the Raptors 905 110-102. Go-Go point guard Chasson Randle finished with a team high 22 points, high flying forward Devin Robinson posted a monster double double with 20 points, 17 rebounds, 3 steals and Washington Wizards rookie Troy Brown Jr added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assist. The Raptors 905 were led by Chris Boucher 28 points, guard Jordan Loyd 22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assist and guard Rodney Pryor who finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assist.
Here are a few observations from the game
Turnovers killed the Go-go all night long, especially late. Capital City turned the ball over 24 times including six in the fourth quarter, which helped spark the late rally from the Raptors. Forward Lavoy Allen led the team with five turnovers, however the errors from the Go-Go guards were more alarming. 13 Turnovers came from Go-Go guards throughout the night, stymying any attempts to build on their lead or stop the Raptors late rally to win the game. Turnovers has been an issue for Capital City all season. They are currently ranked 18th in the G-league averaging 17.8 a game. It’s hard to close games and secure wins having this issue. The Go-Go are 4-6, if they’re to get back on the winning side of things, taking care of the ball is a must moving forward.
Three Point Shooting was also an x-factor in the loss Saturday night for Capital City. The Go-Go shot 26 percent from deep while allowing the Raptors to knock down 39 percent. To make matters worst, the Raptors frontcourt of Deng Adel and Chris Boucher who is second in the G-league in scoring, shot a combined 6 of 14 from three point territory. The only front court player to knock down a triple was Devin Robinson who shot 2 of 7. Capital City shoots 31 percent from deep which is one of the worst in the league. Keep an eye on this as the season continues to unfold.
Devin Robinson growth as a player continues at a rapid pace. Robinson was drafted as an athletic, versatile big with limited skill. That isn’t the case anymore. Robinson shined against the Raptors 905, making an impact on both ends. Robinson finished well, hit mid-range jumpers as well as a couple of three pointers. Ran the floor well for highlight reel dunks and was perfect from the line. He also was active defensively, bothering shot attempts at the basket and when switched on Raptors 905 guards, Robinson stayed low and got the stop. Add in his game high 17 rebounds and you can see why the Wizards are enamored with his potential as a player. If he keeps this level of production up, he will be getting a call to join the Wizards sooner then later.
