The Washington Wizards continued adding developmental talent to their organization by signing former Auburn and Mississippi State forward KeShawn Murphy to an Exhibit 10 contract following the 2026 NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward enjoyed a productive final season at Auburn, averaging 10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steal, and 1.0 block per game while shooting an efficient 56 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range, and 73 percent from the free-throw line.

Murphy enters the professional ranks as one of the more intriguing developmental frontcourt prospects available after the draft. With a 7-foot wingspan, athleticism, skill, and versatility, he possesses several traits that fit the modern NBA game and could make him a candidate to follow a developmental path similar to that of Justin Champagnie within the Wizards organization.

Scouting Report

Strengths

Murphy's greatest strength is his ability to score around the basket. A true technician on the block, he displays outstanding touch and feel in the paint, utilizing a variety of jump hooks, floaters, runners, and counters to score over either shoulder. His advanced footwork, balance, and body control allow him to create quality looks even against physical defenders.

Despite being known primarily for his interior scoring, Murphy has flashed perimeter potential. He is comfortable stepping out and knocking down jump shots, including three-pointers, which gives him developmental upside as a stretch frontcourt player. While his efficiency from beyond the arc still needs improvement, the mechanics and confidence are present.

Athletically, Murphy is a powerful finisher who plays above the rim. He thrives as a rim runner in transition and is an ideal lob target in pick-and-roll actions, slips, ghost screens, and fast-break situations. His combination of size, mobility, and explosiveness makes him a constant threat around the basket.

Murphy is also an underrated playmaker. He demonstrates strong basketball IQ, reads defenses effectively, and consistently makes the correct pass. His ability to deliver accurate passes without turning the ball over adds value to his offensive profile and makes him a better fit in movement-based offensive systems.

On the defensive end, Murphy brings energy and versatility. He plays with a good motor, rebounds at a high level, and provides solid rim protection. His mobility allows him to switch onto guards and wings when necessary, making him a viable option in modern defensive schemes that emphasize versatility and switchability.

Weaknesses

Murphy's biggest area for growth is his perimeter shooting consistency. While he has shown the ability to make shots from beyond the arc, he must improve both his efficiency and volume to maximize his value as a modern NBA frontcourt player.

As a tweener between the power forward and center positions, Murphy will also need to continue refining his positional identity. He lacks the traditional size of some NBA centers while not yet possessing the consistent perimeter skill set of a full-time power forward. Finding the right balance between the two roles will be important as he develops professionally.

Additionally, continuing to add strength and improving his defensive discipline against NBA-level athletes will be key as he adjusts to the speed and physicality of the professional game.

Outlook

It is easy to envision Murphy following a developmental blueprint similar to Justin Champagnie's journey with Washington. The Wizards have shown a willingness to invest in young talent through their G League system, allowing prospects to develop with consistent reps before earning opportunities at the NBA level.

Murphy possesses many of the foundational tools teams look for in developmental big men: size, athleticism, touch, versatility, basketball IQ, rebounding, and defensive potential. If he embraces the process and continues to improve his perimeter shooting, he has a legitimate opportunity to turn this Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way deal and eventually earn a standard NBA contract.

For an organization committed to rebuilding through player development, KeShawn Murphy represents exactly the type of low-risk, high-upside investment worth making.
