Battle of the Back-court's: will be the determining factor in who wins this game. The Erie Bayhawks bring second year point guard Josh Gray (LSU) and rookie guard Jalen Adams (Connecticut), and their 51 points per game combined average to DC tonight, looking to leave with a 2-1 record.
Gray is a quick floor general that finishes well inside despite his small stature (6'0) and is automatic from mid-range shooting the ball. He's also an adequate passer (6 apg) and rebounder (6 rpg). Where he has had issues so far this season is on the defensive end and turning the ball over. Constantly attacking him in transition, on the block and having him run around numerous screens will result in fouls from Gray on defense. When he's on offense, look for the Go-Go to throw pressure and length at him to speed him up since he is turnover prone.
Adams is one of the more efficient scorers in the G-league and one the Go-Go must keep an eye on. Adams relies more on pace and picking his spots to pick teams apart. He's currently averaging 23 points, 6 assist and 1.5 steals on 51.5 percent shooting from the field and 47.1 percent from 3-point range. He can fill it up and doesn't need many attempts to get going.
Chris Chiozza (Florida) and Justin Robinson (Virginia Tech) will have to show up on both ends tonight if Capital City are to contain the Bayhawks lethal back-court. They're fully capable. Chiozza is an all around threat, while being a sniper from deep and is as tough as they come. He's averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6 assist and 3 steals on 41.2 percent shooting from deep. His leadership due to experience in the G-league and the NBA, is invaluable, and has help speed up the learning curve for rookie Justin Robinson. Robinson is averaging 20.5 points per game, yet his solid defense on point and shooting guards, has been a welcomed addition. Improvement in shooting efficiency (43% FG/ 33% 3FG/ 54% FT) for Robinson will take his game to another level.
Expect some outstanding guard play tonight.
