In a highly anticipated exhibition matchup between two programs that hadn’t faced each other in 44 years, the battle lived up to expectations. Georgetown weathered a spirited start from George Washington before pulling away late in the second half to earn a 73-64 win. Billed as the “DC Match-Up,” the game carried added intrigue as GW center Rafael Castro faced off against his former coach at Providence, now Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley. Castro impressed with a well-rounded performance, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and two steals. Sophomore guard Christian Jones added a team-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while transfer wing Bubu Benjamin contributed 11 points for the Revolutionaries.
For Georgetown, junior floor general Malik Mack dictated the tempo after GW’s 9-6 start, tallying 16 points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals on an efficient 5-of-8 from the field. The Hoyas were powered by a red-hot Caleb Williams, who poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, while also grabbing six rebounds. Georgetown’s poise and execution down the stretch ultimately proved to be the difference. For a full analysis of the game, tune in to GW Recap below.
