Pro Player Comparison:

Penny Hardaway

Overall Evaluation:

Lamelo, after his pops fell back a bit and was coached like a pro, has emerged as a possible number one overall pick. His ceiling screams young Penny Hardaway due to his combination of size, skill, scoring, playmaking, athleticism (although not Penny level at this stage) and instincts. He’s fearless and it’s obvious that he has matured in many ways, specifically defensively and in his shot selection. Also, I know his older brother Lonzo Ball has helped in his development behind the scenes as well, how could he not. I doubt Melo will be phased by the attention since he’s been in the public eye pretty much since he’s started high school and it’s clear that he loves the game. He will need a little time to figure out the league but once he does, we could be seeing something special in the making.
