APBL Diary Featuring Rockville Victors Dele Ojo

By Cardell Dudley

With the American Professional Basketball League becoming more and more popular throughout the DMV, I decided to have a bi-weekly article focusing on the league, however with a twist. I could give my take on what's going on, of course, but I thought it would be better to have someone who is actually going through APBL battles to speak on what is going on throughout the league. Enter Rockville Victors star point guard Dele Ojo. I could run off his resume to vouch for how worthy he is to hold this slot, although im sure many of you are already aware. Yet as a man of few words, I decided to let his highlights speak for him, simply put he is one of the top guards from the DMV in the professional basketball ranks....period! As one of the leaders for the Rockville Victors who made it to the 2013-2014 APBL final four before losing to the eventual APBL champions Metro All Stars, Ojo and the Victors came into this season with one thing in mind....an APBL Championship. Adding a force in Hugh "Baby Shaq" Jones and the athletic Pele Paelay to an already title contending roster in the off-season, Rockville has started the season on a terror, dominating opponents at will. With all of that being said, I believe Ojo is more then qualified to speak on what is going in APBL Hoops. So without further delay, here he is........

This is Ojo back at it. First off I would like to thank Cardell and the Finest Mag crew for giving me the opportunity to talk on behalf of the Rockville Victors. We're off to a great start this year, and it feels good to be winning again. We brought the momentum into the season by winning the breast cancer tourney . It was for a good cause. Also if you are from the DMV, any tourney around here is competitive. As far as the Victors, we're hungrier than ever. Our roster from top to bottom can start on any APBL team. My two soldiers and life long teammates, mo county (Montgomery County,MD) legends Tavares "Coop" Cooper and Anthony "Gumby" Williams and myself lead the pack along with the addition of Hugh "Baby Shaq" Jones and Pele Paelay we are dangerous,I mean their resume speaks for itself, and I believe Shaq is still playing at a NBA level. I feel like all of us (vets) are getting better with age. Everyone on our team is important. Every year, the APBL is getting stronger as a whole. It's a good league to get film and potentially further your career. I don't know too much about the other teams up north except for NYC 524 and the Philly team. but I know the DMV teams are loaded! Of course, the Metro (All Stars) are the Champs until they get defeated. Key players that's off to a good start on our team is Pele, Rodney Mickens, and my other warrior and vet Pierre. I have been playing with Gum, Coop, Shaq and Pierre for years, I know what to expect from them. I believe the key to us potentially winning it all is the key additions, and the key returning players. An if it's anybody that knows us well and can manage our different personalities, it's Coach Schools. He's a former teammate of mine and former APBL coach of the year (12-13). He knows what it takes to help us win ball games. This season is going to be interesting. Stay tune.........
