Strong Defense Late Propels The Wizards Past The Spurs 101-93

By Cardell Dudley

Going into the game against the defending NBA world champions San Antonio Spurs, if you would have asked anyone who would be the difference maker if the Wizards were to win, names like Wall, Beal, Pierce would have no doubt been the first names mentioned. However, the difference in the Wizards defeating the Spurs for the first time in 17 tries would be back-up forward Kevin Seraphin. Seraphin has shown flashes of coming into his own all season and last night, it all came together, Seraphin came up huge in the fourth quarter scoring 11 of his 17 points and grabbing five of his eight rebounds to help push the Wizards past the Spurs 101-93. The Wizards defense late shut out hopes of a Spurs comeback, thanks to back to back blocks from Seraphin and Beal along with two uncharacteristic Spur turnovers. Wall finished the game with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks for the Wizards while the ageless Tim Duncan posted 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs. Check out what went down below.
