Chase Shines As GW Women's Knocks Off St Louis 89-80


Graduate Student Lauren Chase was dominant, posting a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win

As tip approached, many felt this would be a big test to see if the Colonials are a serious threat to potentially make a deep run come tournament time as they hosted the hot St Louis Billikens. St Louis came into the game winners of seven straight and a game back of GW and were looking to exploit the void in the paint due to GW's standout center Jonquel Jones sitting out with injury. The Colonials faced a daunting challenge to keep their hold on the A-10 intact and it would take a total team effort to overcome the challenge. To say GW answered the challenge is an understatement. Led by Grad Student Lauren Chase double - double (19 points, 10 assist) George Washington would down St Louis 89-80, extending their winning streak to 14 games.

Sophomore guard Brianna Cummings scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds off the bench while junior forward Caira Washington posted a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and junior guard Shannon Cranshaw added 14 points. St Louis was led by junior center Sadie Stipanovich who finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Aaliyah Covington added 15 points.

GW led by Chase 8 first quarter points and big time contributions from senior forward DaLacy Anderson (8 points) and Mei-Lyn Bautista (5 points) would jump out to a 24-15 lead. St Louis wouldn't go away. Senior guard Jamesia Price (9 points,8 rebounds,7 assist) would score 7 points and grab 6 rebounds to help the Billikens cut the lead to three as they trailed 39-36 at the half. St Louis took a brief lead to start the second half, however GW would retake the lead right after, thanks to a Cranshaw 3-pointer. GW wouldn't relinquish the lead again, holding on for a 89-80 victory.

The Colonials improved to 19-3,9-0 and will hit the road to take on Fordham Wednesday at 7pm.
