Washington Mystics vs Connecticut Sun Preview

Mystics  vs Sun

When: Sunday, June 8th, at 3:00 p.m.

Where: CareFirst Arena, Washington, D.C.

TV: League Pass

Injury

Mystics: Georgia Amoore (Out for the Season/ACL)

Sun: Rayah Marshall (Out/ Ankle)

Keep An Eye on:

Kiki Iriafen: continuing to be Kiki Iriafen.....it's that simple!!!

Marina Mabrey: has struggled shooting the ball this season , especially for her standards. Coming off a 2024 season where she finished with 46/42/68 splits, Mabrey through 8 games this season is shooting 39.4 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from deep and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe. She was due for a breakout from her shooting slump and it appeared she did just that, in a Suns win over the Atlanta Dream on June 6th. Mabrey scored a game high 34 points, pulled down 4 rebounds and dished out 4 assists on 13-22 from the field, 3-8 from deep and 5-6 from the free throw line.

She will be coming in ultra confident and looking to maintain the same level of efficiency she displayed against the Dream. Neutralizing her will go a long way to limiting the Sun offensively in a variety of ways and increasing the chances for Washington to defend their home court with a win.

Fourth Quarter Execution: from Washington has been an issue all season. Their record could (and probably should) be flipped right now, if the Mystics just played a little more carefully in the 4th quarter of games. In the 4th quarter this season, Washington has a 104.3 offensive rating, good enough for fifth place in the WNBA, average 21.3 points per game (2nd in the WNBA) AND pull down 9.6 rebounds per game (2nd in the WNBA), however, their defensive rating is 101.1 (8th in the WNBA), their assist/turnover ratio is 0.94 (11th in the WNBA), they shoot 40.3 percent from the field (8th in the WNBA), shoot 32.4 percent from 3-point range (5th in the WNBA), hit 77.1 percent from the free throw line (7th in the WNBA), dish out 3.4 assists (11th in the WNBA) and lastly, they turn the ball over 3.7 times (8th in the WNBA).

Better ball movement, less turnovers and more efficiency on both ends of the floor, will help them turn the tide and be more consistent with winning games. This afternoon against the Sun is as good of a time as any to start to clean up things.
